The Infantry - Uniforms of the Reserve Regiments (Cont'd)

Erstes Reserve-Infantrie-Regiment

1st Battalion - Prior to 1813, this formation was clothed in a grey uniform . The 'Schirmutze' was decorated with an orange-red band and with a similarly coloured figure 1 on the front of the crown.

Thereafter, they were issued with 'English' coats of dark-blue cloth with white turnbacks, a red collar and shoulder straps that were piped in white. Across the breast were eight bars of white lace. The pantaloons were dark-blue or white and were worn in black gaiters. English sugar-loaf shako with an oval brass plate bearing the royal arms, plume of white over red wool.

This battalion was armed with the 'Brown Bess' musket and had white cross belts.

2nd, 3rd & 4th Battalions - These were uniformed in the dress of the 'Erstes Ostpreussisches-Infantrie-Regiment' grey jackets without tails, Feldmutze with an orange-red band and Battalion number above the headband.

All had white crossbelts and black leather cartridge pouches, except the 3rd Fusilier Battalion which had black leather crossbelts.

In March of 1815, this Regiment was re-named No.13, 'Erstes Westfalisches Infantrie-Regiment'.

Zweites Reserve-Infanterie-Regiment

Before July 1813, the whole regiment was dressed in grey - Schirmutze, sleeved waistcoats and breeches - together with black gaiters. Thereafter the following dress was worn:

1st Battalion - Dark blue tunic with scarlet collars, cuffas, shoulder straps and turnbacks. English knapsacks and white crossbelts. The head-dress was an English pattern sugar-loaf shako with a brass plate and a red and white topped pom-pom. Before 1815 this Battalion had adopted the Prussian oilskin covered shako.

2nd Battalion - Dressed in an English uniform similar to the 'Erstes' Infantrie-Regiment 1st Battalion, but with red shoulder straps and turnbacks. Modified by 1815 as noted above for the 1st Battalion.

3rd Battalion - Dark blue 'Kollet' with red facings and brass buttons. Dark blue trousers, white shoulder belts.

In Dusseldorf in 1813, it was reported that French shakos were being worn. The 1st and 3rd Battalion had them with red Grenadier's plumes, whilst the 2nd Battalion differed in that they wore yellow and green 'voltigeur' decorations all without the brass plates removed.

By 1815 the whole regiment was wearing the Prussian oilskin covered shakos.

In March 1815, this Regiment was re-named No.14 'Drittes Pommersches Infantrie-Regiment'.
